General Practice Services

 

 

At Lorne Medical Centre our Doctors are highly trained and dedicated professionals who offer a friendly and comprehensive standard of care to all of our patients.

In addition to the normal standard of care offered, our Doctors can also provide the following services:

  • Minor procedures such as excision of skin lesions, hormone implantation and repair of skin lacerations
  • Pre-employment medicals

Hours

We are open from 8.45am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday

Some sessions are provided on Public Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout January and in peak tourist season. These will be advised on the front door and on our after hours message.

Plenty of on-site parking available, including disabled parks and access

Transfer your medical records
If would like your existing medical records transferred from another clinic, you will need to provide them with a written request. You can either send them a letter requesting your records be forwarded to Lorne Medical Centre or reception can provide you a form to sign and send to the previous Doctor. Please note that some medical centres charge an administration fee for transferring records.
Immunisation

Flu Vaccination
The following groups are eligible for free government supplied seasonal influenza vaccine:

  • 65 years of age and over
  • Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
  • Indigenous people from 6mths of age onwards
  • Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • Any person 6 months of age and over with a chronic condition predisposing to severe influenza illness that requires regular medical follow-up or hospitalisation such as:
      • cardiac disease
      • respiratory disease including severe asthmatics
      • kidney disease
      • diabetes
      • impaired immunity
      • neuromuscular disease

Please contact our receptionists to discuss as there may be some additional costs associated with the procedure, despite the vaccine itself being supplied free of charge.

Whooping Cough Vaccine Free for pregnant women.
Children’s Immunisations In Australia the childhood immunisation schedule runs from birth to 4 years of age. Click here to see the full immunisation schedule. These immunisations are bulk-billed at Lorne Medical Centre.
Pneumonia Vaccine Pneumonia Vaccine is available free of charge to all patients aged over 70 years.
Shingles Vaccine Free for those aged over 65 years, First Nations People over 50 and immunocompromised people 18 years and over at high risk of herpes zoster infection. Eligibility to be assessed by our practice nurse.
Travel Immunisations All travel medicine requires an initial consultation with your doctor to determine which vaccines are required for your particular destination.

Men’s Health
The Lorne Medical Centre has a number of male doctors that are happy to discuss any specific concerns you may have regarding men’s health problems such as;

Women's Health

The Lorne Medical Centre provides clinical services, information, counselling, referral and education to all women. Many women lead hectic lives, however it is important to find the time for regular check-ups.

  • Contraception guidance (including long-acting implants)
  • STD screening
  • Continence information and treatment for Urinary incontinence

Allied Health

Allied Health at the Great Ocean Road Health is a specialist group of health professionals working collaboratively with the aim of improving multidisciplinary patient care. Services offered include; physiotherapy, diabetes educator, exercise physiology, optometry, audiology, occupational therapy, podiatry and dietitian.

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist’s attends our health service five days per week and are available to community clients, in patients and aged care residents. Referrals can be made through your GP, or you can self-refer. Please phone Great Ocean Road Health reception on 5237 8571 to make an appointment.

Social Worker

Our social workers have experience working with a wide range of issues including:
depression, anxiety, behavioural issues, relationship issues, addiction, self-development, stress, trauma and motivation.

Occupational Therapy

Great Ocean Road Health provides an Occupational Therapy service to Nursing Home residents, in-patients and community clients. Referrals can be via your medical practitioner or you can self-refer. Please phone GORH Intake on 5237 8571 for an occupational therapist appointment.

Podiatry

Great Ocean Road Health is funded to provide podiatry under the Home and Community Care program. A District Nurse health assessment is required and fees depend on the client’s ability to pay. A Veterans (DVA) service is also available. Please phone GORH Lorne hospital reception 5289 4300 for an appointment.

Kelly Fuller from Coast Care Podiatry conducts a session once a fortnight. The service is for people of all ages. This is a private service and fees will apply. Please contact Coast Care Podiatry on 5202 8910 for an appointment.

Dietitian

Our Dietitian Mr William Chow has fortnightly appointments available on a Friday at Lorne Medical Centre.  All enquiries, please contact Intake 5237 5871

 

Diabetes Educator

Appointments with Celia Clarke, our Diabetes Educator, are available fortnightly on a Tuesday at Lorne Community House. All enquiries, please contact Intake 5237 5871

Psychologist

Rebecca Nester is available at the Apollo Bay Campus only. Please see Apollo Bay Medical Centre website for further details.

Exercise Physiology

Our Exercise Physiologist specialises in creating safe and realistic exercise programs for people of all ages and abilities.  People who need to change their lifestyle habits to either prevent or manage chronic health conditions, will benefit from these sessions. Optometry

Optometrists are not only concerned about the health of your eyes but also aim to provide a personalized service which integrates with your overall healthcare. Please contact the Lorne Medical Centre on 5289 4333 to book an appointment.

Fees

We ask that fees be paid for at the time of consultation. The practice accepts major credit cards. Patients who hold a valid Health Care or Concession card maybe eligible for a discounted fee. Other people experiencing financial hardship will need to speak individually to their doctor.

Pathology

Your questions answered about our new and improved Pathology Service. Your feedback is so important in how we shape our healthcare service.

Q. Why did GORH change providers?

A. The pathology contract required updating and the services was put out to tender as required. The successful tender was Dorevitch and this required a change in the process.

Q. Is the service still the same?

A. The service is different, it is now more timely and reliable, with GP’s often being able to take blood during the consultations.

Failed to Attend Appointment Policy

Lorne Medical Centre have a ‘No Show’ Policy.

If a patient fails to attend a booked appointment, the doctor reserves the right to charge a No Show Fee, and will take into account the inconvenience to other patients and costs incurred by the practice due to the non-attendance.

In a case of a non-attendance due to an emergency or unforeseen circumstances, this will also be take into account.

This fee is not able to be claimed through Medicare and is the responsibility of the patient to pay before being able to rebook with that Doctor.

The DNA Fee:

$50 for any non-attendance or cancellation less than 1 hour prior to your appointment time.
