General Practice Services

 

 

At Lorne Medical Centre our Doctors are highly trained and dedicated professionals who offer a friendly and comprehensive standard of care to all of our patients.

In addition to the normal standard of care offered, our Doctors can also provide the following services:

  • Minor procedures such as excision of skin lesions, hormone implantation and repair of skin lacerations

Hours

Some sessions are provided on Public Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout January and in peak tourist season. These will be advised on the front door and on our after hours message.

Transfer your medical records

If would like your existing medical records transferred from another clinic, you will need to provide them with a written request. You can either send them a letter requesting your records be forwarded to Lorne Medical Centre or reception can provide you a form to sign and send to the previous Doctor. Please note that some medical centres charge an administration fee for transferring records.

Immunisation

Flu Vaccination The following groups are eligible for free government supplied seasonal influenza vaccine:

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • 65 years of age and over
  • Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
  • Indigenous people 15 years of age and over
  • Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • Any person 6 months of age and over with a chronic condition predisposing to severe influenza illness that requires regular medical follow-up or hospitalisation such as:
    • cardiac disease
    • respiratory disease including severe asthmatics
    • kidney disease
    • diabetes
    • impaired immunity
    • neuromuscular disease

Please contact our receptionists to discuss as there may be some additional costs associated with the procedure, despite the vaccine itself being supplied free of charge. Children’s Immunisations In Australia the childhood immunisation schedule runs from birth to 4 years of age. Click here to see the full immunisation schedule. These immunisations are bulk-billed at Lorne Medical Centre. Pneumonia Vaccine Pneumonia Vaccine is available free of charge to all patients aged over 65 years. Meningococcal Vaccine Meningococcal Vaccine is available free of charge to all children and young adults aged under 19 years. Chickenpox Vaccine Varilirix (chickenpox) vaccine is available free of charge to children aged 18 months.  This childhood immunisation can be administered after that age, however please note there will be a charge associated with the procedure. Hepatitis B Hepatitis B vaccines are available free of charge to 10 – 13 year olds who have not received a primary course. Travel Immunisations All travel medicine requires an initial consultation with your doctor to determine which vaccines are required for your particular destination. Women’s Health

The Lorne Medical Centre’s newly formed ‘Well Women’s Clinic’ is an affordable (bulked billed), confidential service that provides clinical services, information, counselling, referral and education to all women. Many women lead hectic lives, however it is important to find the time for regular check-ups.

Helen Moriarty, a Registered Nurse and Midwife will be leading the Well Women’s Clinic. Helen has been a senior nurse at the Lorne Community Hospital for many years and is a well-regarded local community member.

Lorne Medical Centre’s GPs, Dr Mary Barson, Dr Swaroopini Thangarajah and Gynaecology, Dr Judith Fleming plus Lorne Community Hospital’s Physiotherapists Cheryl Biddle and Holly Lipson will also be available for appointments. Together they will provide a full medical service for women run by women.

Men’s Health

The Lorne Medical Centre has a number of male doctors that are happy to discuss any specific concerns you may have regarding men’s health problems such as;

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Bowel cancer
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Health checks for men
  • Incontinence and continence problems
  • Infertility
  • Prostate cancer
  • Stress

Allied Health

Allied Health at the Lorne Community Hospital is a specialist group of health professionals working collaboratively with the aim of improving multidisciplinary patient care. Services offered include; physiotherapy, audiology, occupational therapy, podiatry and dietitian. (hyper link services)

Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist’s attends the Hospital five days per week and are available to community clients, in patients and aged care residents. Referrals can be made through your GP, or you can self-refer. Please phone Hospital reception on 5289 4300 to make an appointment.

Audiology

Hearing Aid Specialists Geelong provide hearing services to private clients and eligible pensioners under the Office of hearing Services Program. The hearing clinic at Lorne operates on the third Wednesday of each month.

Occupational Therapy

The Lorne Community Hospital provides an Occupational Therapy service to Nursing Home residents, in-patients and community clients. Referrals can be via your medical practitioner or you can self-refer. Please phone Hospital reception on 5289 4300 for an occupational therapist appointment.

Podiatry

The Lorne Community Hospital is funded to provide podiatry under the Home and Community Care program. A District Nurse health assessment is required and fees depend on the client’s ability to pay. A Veterans (DVA) service is also available. Surf Coast Podiatry conducts a session once a month. The service is for people of all ages. This is a private service and fees will apply. Please phone Hospital reception for a podiatry appointment with either service.

Dietitian

Appointments with the Dietitian or Diabetes Educator can be booked through the Lorne Medical Centre on 5289 4333.

Psychologist

Our Psychologist attends the Hospital every Wednesday and is available to in-patients and community clients. Referrals can be via your medical practitioner or you can self-refer. Please phone Hospital reception on 5289 4300 for a Psychologist appointment.

Massage & Bowen Therapy

At the Lorne Medical Centre our Massage/Bowen Therapist offers a range of different techniques such as Bowen Therapy, Emmett technique, therapeutic, relaxation, lymphatic drainage, pregnancy and Indian head massage.

Osteopath

The Lorne Community Hospital provides an Osteopath service to community clients. Referrals can be via your medical practitioner or you can self-refer. Please phone Hospital reception on 5289 4300 for an Osteopath appointment.

 

 

Fees

We ask that fees be paid for at the time of consultation. The practice accepts major credit cards.

Bulk billing is available for pensioners, veterans, health Care Card holders, and children under 16 years of age. Other people experiencing financial hardship may be bulked billed.

On 1st November 2016 our fee for a standard consultation will be $72.00.  No other fees will change.

 

Patient feedback or complaints

Patient surveys are available for you to fill out at any time. Feedback from patients is also welcomed.

Telehealth

 

The opportunity, in some instances to have a consultation with a specialist in the city without leaving Lorne.

Telehealth is healthcare at a distance facilitated by technology.

Lorne Medical Centre provides support for video consultations with Telehealth Enabled Specialists in other health services.

Telehealth consultations can be with the support of a GP or Practice Nurse, or independently using the technology available at the hospital. Private consultations with out GP’s attracts a non rebatable fee of $100.
